Wojtek sculpture.

By David Harding

I was commissioned by the architect of the new Post House Hotel at the entrance of Edinburgh Zoo in 1972 to make a sculpture of Wojtek.  It was sited in the middle of one of the restaurants which was themed on the amazing life of Wojtek with texts and large images on the walls. When the hotel interior was redesigned in 1985 the sculpture was offered to the Sikorski Museum in London.

I took the inspiration for the sculpture from the Morgan/Lasocki book, 1970, which described Wojtek trying to catch chickens by having a box to hand and some grain to tempt a chicken under the box when he would try to trap it.  He never succeeded. So the title is WOJTEK FAILS AGAIN TO CATCH A CHICKEN.

Quote from David Harding who made the Wojtek sculpture for the Post House Hotel at Edinburgh Zoo.
